The swine flu, and the possibility of a world pandemic, is not only in the news, it is unnerving. One has only to recall history to realize that global killers have plagued human civilization before. Gruesome details abound. But, surprisingly, so do acts of love.

I realized that I couldn’t claim to follow Jesus and believe in the Bible unless I integrated justice into my Christian faith. So over the course of the last decade, I’ve been trying to figure out what it means to worship a God who tells us that true worship involves feeding the hungry and releasing the oppressed.

George Washington Carver discovered over 300 things that could be made from the peanut, things like brick and mortar, dyes and cosmetics. Not only did God gift Mr. Carver with understanding the peanut but also many other plants as well.
