I like the examples you give of sustainable traditions: “how to build an efficient fire, how to can food safely, how to deliver a breech lamb, how to compost.” It got me to thinking about what some sustainable spiritual traditions might be. Two that popped into my head are small communities (as opposed to mega-churches, the factory farm method of spiritual growth) and local communities (I know far too many people that drive to other cities for Sunday worship and aren't involved in the lives of those in their communities any of the rest of the week because of the distance.)
