Food is so much more than fuel. Food is connection. It is meant to connect us to the land from which it comes, to the people with whom we share it, the atmosphere in which it is shared, the memories it produces, and mostly with Him who blesses us with it all.

So, I have many things floating around in my mind. Many things I need to sort through. Sweet food is my way to de-stress. So I wonder; is that wrong to use food in this way? I don’t think it is. I believe that God created food to be much more than fuel…

Reclaiming the temple is really reclaiming my life; my thoughts, emotions and talents. This is where rededicating it all to the Lord comes in. He wants all of it. Not because He needs it or is some great fun stealer. I truly believe that He loves food too…

Out of this struggle to continually choose sacrificial love we are reminded that it is not idealism or politically-inspired activism but humble submission to the Holy Spirit through whom we can say, like the ancient Hebrew psalmist-king David, “o my soul, faint not, no faint not | o my soul, keep up, up in love”…

Isn’t our culture’s commercialization of such a holy event every bit as profane as selling doves and changing money in the courtyards of the temple? I wonder what would happen if Jesus walked into an American mall…with songs proclaiming his birth being piped in to induce purchases.
