Dorothy Day: We cannot love GOD unless we love each other

The Final Word Is Love by Dorothy Day

By Jason Fowler on 08/31/2012

We cannot love God unless we love each other, and to love we must know each other. We know him in the breaking of bread, and we are not alone any more. Heaven is a banquet and life is a banquet, too, even with a crust, where there is companionship.

In a culture of distraction there is an urgent need to reclaim lament

Lament: Neil Postman and A Culture of Distraction

By Jason Fowler on 08/03/2012

We must learn again to weep before GOD…to stop looking to call down fire on a nation that is wandering in darkness. We can never forget that Judas was a Zealot and Peter did not build the early church until he was broken by his own pride before the loving face of Jesus. The only way forward is a journey of lament…

The Permanent Revolution: Apostolic Imagination and Practice for the 21st Century Church by Alan Hirsch and Tim Catchim

The Permanent Revolution by Alan Hirsch and Tim Catchim (Book Review)

By Scott Emery on 07/05/2012

If you have been well-versed in the missional conversation this book will continue to expand your conception of the nature of the church and how to put feet to it. If you are just getting your feet wet in the missional conversation this book will blow your mind and then put it all back together again…

May we behold Jesus our king this Christmas

Behold Your King: A Christmas Greeting

By Jason Fowler on 12/24/2011

Let us remember that GOD’s purposes can be birthed in us as we too go low, go small, and labor as He leads us – we need only to be willing vessels. Peace to you this Christmas from our family to yours…

What does permaculture have in common with Christian faith? More than you think.

Permaculture and Christian Faith (Part 1)

By Melody Adele Connally on 10/28/2011

When, a few years ago, I read through a summary of David Holmgren‘s “Permaculture Principals,” it had struck me how well it fit into the kind of pursuit of Jesus that is aligned with a pursuit of the kingdom of heaven…

Jesus: the resurrected One (montage: J Fowler)

The Centrality of the Resurrected Jesus

By Jason Fowler on 04/30/2011

We are invited to a Jesus-centric spirituality- a whole-life discipleship- an all encompassing transformation that relies on the central reality of our belief- of Jesus as Lord and Messiah. But without His resurrection His lordship over our lives would be nothing more than a religious facade…

Jesus Died For This? by Becky Garrison is a prophetic gut-punch to our false spirituality

Jesus Died For This? (Book Review)

By Jason Fowler on 04/19/2011

This book is wonderfully offensive…There is a bit of a gut-punch in their for all of us. And if we’re willing to leave our pseudo-piety behind we will discover that there is indeed a promised land for those of us who are willing to laugh at ourselves and strike out on a soul-searching journey towards the risen Jesus…
